As precious as this time of your life is, I understand how chaotic it can be to choose how to pick the perfect style of clothes for your maternity photoshoot.
From the experience I have gathered photographing more than 500 pregnancy photoshoots, I can tell you one thing:
This moment is going to be looked back at for the rest of your life. So, don’t overdo it.
Simple and classic looks never disappoint.
It’s true that maternity photoshoot is important for the future. But, you also have to make sure that this memory remains timeless. So, when your children look at these images a decade or more later, it’s a joyful moment and not something that makes you wonder “Goodness! Why did I wear this!”
Here’s how to Dress your Bump with style:
The Type Of Cloth
There are various materials you could choose from, but not all of them would complement the special moment. So let’s look at a few examples of the best-suited cloth:
-
Sheer Fabric
This material not only allows light to pass through the fabric but also compliments the glow on your skin in a heavenly way. The more the light in your shot, the more magical your maternity photoshoot will look.
-
Flowy Materials
If the theme is exceptional and extravagant; wear a long dress with flowing fabric to compliment the bump. Dresses with trails are often the best pair-up with this material. The trail can either be used to capture a mid-air shot or enhance the beauty as is.
Here is an example of using flowy dresses with a long trail:
-
Ruffles
While flaunting your bump, extra layers to your clothing can never go wrong. It makes the outfit more breathable and a few layers can make it look extra chic.
The Style Of Dress
Dresses to wear for a maternity photoshoot might seem limited, but you just have to look in the right place. The range is wide and almost uncountable, but only a bunch that amplifies the grace.
If you want to show off the shape of your womb, a slim fit dress made out of stretchable t-shirt cloth is perfect. As it highlights the shape of the bump and your body.
If you want something more breathable and yet glamorous, a long floor-length gown for a maternity shoot is perfect.
PS: I am not such a big fan of Jeans and T-shirt shots. They are casual. You want classic and unique and a memory that will stay timeless.
After you’re done selecting the material and the dress, the next thing to decide is,
The colour of your outfit
Fortunately, the hassle of variety does not apply here. there are only 2 simple colour choices that will suit you best for your maternity shoot-
- Block colours, and,
- Pastel colours.
- With a well-lit background and set-up, block colours make a bold statement and make you the focus of the shot.
- If the shot is dim-lit and with a darker aesthetic, pastel colours help brighten it perfectly and highlight the baby bump.
While there’s a world of options to choose from, another great idea is to,
Dig into your wardrobe
The most intimate alternative is to wear your Wedding Dress. It showcases the growth and the progress you have made in your life, now ready to begin a new one.
